What is a Bear?

The Bear rank is for youth who are in 3rd grade (or who are 9 years old). To earn the Bear badge of rank, a Scout must complete six required Adventures and any two elective Adventures. Many adventures are completed as a Den to complete the Scouts rank. Each adventure is based on themes such as outdoors, citizenship, reverence, and personal safety while electives are offered in fishing, woodworking, and forensics among many others. Beginning in the Bear Den, Scouts can work on knife safety and earn their whittling belt loop.  Their parent or guardian and den leader approve each requirement, and the youth receive an adventure loop for each adventure.
